Riviera Magazine paired ten interior designers with ten beach lifestyle brands to remodel ten rooms at the fun La Casa Del Camino Hotel. Each of the brands was partnered with a designer to ultimately reflect the companies' character and personality through the design of the room.

The playful and highly creative Billabong suite will appeal to anyone who loves the surf-culture vibe and appreciates artistic ingenuity.

Inspiration for the Billabong Women’s Suite was fairly straightforward. When looking to the company’s origins, it became clear surfing was not only about good waves but also about the journey toward finding them. In Australia, it began with the Kombi Van, a VW worthy of such an adventure.
Boasting similar amenities and style, the design of the room reflects spatial characteristics of “compartmentalization”, while integrating a feminine sensibility of “roughing it with luxury”.

The free-spirited Billabong female traveler also imbues a sense of playfulness. Mid-century furniture mixes organically with vintage beach chairs that can actually be taken down from the wall and right to the beach for an impromptu picnic.

A sensation of discovery and adventure are key to the experience of the room. Flowing, connective lines provide links through the space, symbolic of movement and the integration of past, present and future. Guests vistas are further enhanced through the use of mirrors positioned next to windows for expansive views of sea and sky.

Whether it’s the sand colored carpet, bonfire red sofa, ocean blue and green glass tile or the 80-year-old original beams that were reclaimed during the hotel renovation and repurposed as the decorative wood on the walls, the Women’s Billabong Suite evokes memories of journeys shared and encourages guests to relax and simply “enjoy the ride”.

"Functionality, durability, environmental sustainability, and the value of teamwork were essential to the objective of the project".

"My favorite part was the collaborative aspect of this project. So many generous people donated time and energy because they wanted to do something creative and fun. Every detail was important and I enjoyed the sense of unification", explains designer Michael Soriano.

Voted one of the 20 best beach getaways by Sunset Magazine 2010.
